Take a walk with your family or friends around your yard and neighborhood.  What kinds of shrubs do you recognize? Do you have lilacs?  Pussywillow? Rose of Sharon?  What kind of flowers will come from them? You remember the color or the smell of the flowers but not the kind of flower, or you may say..."I have no idea!" and that is okay too!

We decided to cut some forsythia on Saturday while the weather was a little warmer! We're going to do this one first .

We have butterfly bushes we could try this on.

We had fun doing this activity, yet it was hard to cut the  branches on some of them. It was really fun to pound the ends!

We enjoyed the pounding too!  I was scared to put the vase too close to the window on those very cold days, but I think it is probably safe again now.

My answer would be "I have no idea, a whole lot of  work from that last owner!!!" hahaha- just kidding, we receive a lot of compliments, that I always give credit to you. I just wish I knew more about how to take care of all of the varieties. I also get overwhelmed because it seems as though everyone has a different name for the same plant! (like the scientific name vs the common name, or just the plant's 'nickname.' Got me!) Gardening is like the game of golf for me, I want to find time to do it and get better at it!

According to my husband, in our yard we have forsythia, spirea, dogwoods, lilacs, rhododendrons and a whole lot more!  Feel free to chime in, Celeste :)

We have a lilac bush and there is a Forsythia across the street at our neighbor's! Our lilac bush produces beautiful purple flowers that remind us of lavender.

I'm doing this project with my grandchildren; I was going to do this project with them this week. Then I read the directions which said to cut twigs when temperature is above freezing. Oops, guess we will hold off until it warms up later next week. I have crabapple trees and apple trees to work with. I have a couple of lilacs, but the bushes are so small, I hate to reduce the spring blooms any more.

We have Elderberry, Lilacs and Rose of Sharon. We love the smell of our purple lilacs. Elderberry is our favorite because Grandma Birmingham makes jam out of the berries! Elderberry is so good for us - helps to build immunity.

We think we will try a Rose of Sharon.  We missed doing it on the couple of warmer days we had.  Hopefully we will have another warmer day soon so we can try it.

We have blueberry bushes, some new rose bushes, and a redbud tree.  We decided to give the redbud a try.  It has woody branches with buds along them like forsythia.  We also took Celeste up on her kind offer of forsythia branches and borrowed a couple of white lilac twigs from my parents' house.  The lilac buds may be leaves in the making, not blooms.  But it will be a fun surprise to find out.

I love redbud trees! Hope you get blossoms from it. The grandchildren and I did crabapple, wild apple and blackberry twigs today. I'm really curious to see if we get any blossoms. Our paperwhites are getting tall and starting to form flower buds.

Celeste,

Would you still be willing to allow us to take you up on your kind offer to try some forsythia for this part?

We are so excited to have bulbs growing. It's very refreshing on these cold, winter days.
