I decided to choose an "Urban Homestead" as my system for this assignment. An Urban Homestead will contain a number of smaller systems, but due to its limited size its important that an Urban Homestead as a whole functions as a system. So rather then just focus on the chickens or the gardens beds, I try to look at the whole site as a system. 

For this assignment it took me some time to come up with the ethics statement. I have a clear vision of my goals and expectations for the site, but to relate that to a set of values was a little more difficult. Here is what I came up with:

-Create a backyard ecosystem that provides fresh food, medicine, and water to my family that will ultimately reduce our impact on the environment.

Selecting the strategies and techniques was the easiest part of the assignment. These are things I have been researching for years and have been anxiously waiting to apply them. My strength as an engineer is building and designing these different systems so I tend to skip over important steps like determining and considering the ethics of these projects/systems. One reason I took this class is because I realize that I am quick to solve problems but can overlook the big picture sometimes.
