I am Erin Call, a young botanist. I am currently residing in Santa Fe, NM. I grew up in the deserts of Arizona and Utah. Applying permaculture to these areas certainly requires different considerations than it does in the Eastern U.S., particularly with a lack of water. I am excited to begin thinking about and applying what we learn in this course to the landscapes around me.
I am familiar with permaculture, especially in small scale gardens. I have read 'Gaia's Garden' and most of my experience has been designing small plots in community gardens. I love creating designs that are beautiful and natural spaces that humans want to be in. I look forward to learning about how to make spaces not only beautiful but ecologically functional. I think that permaculture is a radical act that could change the world! I am excited to learn as much as I can about the specifics of permaculture as well as the importance of it. I would like to take what I learn into my own yard, home, neighborhood, and also apply for grants to apply permaculture on larger scales. That would be my dream!
