I decided to do my Niche Analysis on the Sunshine Blue Blueberry, I really want a berry on my property without it becoming over consumptive of space, it seems like this variety of blueberry stays relatively small so I thought I would use it for my Niche analysis! This blueberry seems to also tolerate a higher pH (up to 6.5) than most other varieties which I liked because it gives me more options for planting the bushes and the plants surrounding the bushes!

Niche Analysis - Sunshine Blue Blueberry
Hi Kate - We grow highbush varieties of blueberries and I hadn't heard of this one. It is very interesting that it is self pollinating, great for a small back yard. It is challenging to keep soil acidic as it wants to revert back. I have to add elemental sulfur at least once a year. I am trying clover as a cover crop around them but learning lots of other ideas to try through this class. Sweet potatoes worked well in between rows. They could handle the acidic soil.
