Week 3: Mapping Your Garden

Greetings!

I hope you all had a nice week off, and had a chance to catch your breath and spend some time out in your gardens.

For this week's exercises you will be measuring and mapping out your existing garden site and noting various features on the map. I recommend creating a base map with a scale drawing of the garden area and any buildings or other permanent features nearby, then using tracing paper over your base map to note sun/shade patterns, wind and overhead/underground obstructions. This leaves your base map 'clean' for future design ideas.

You can buy tracing paper online from Michael's Crafts - they deliver pretty quickly and also have curbside pick-up if there is a store near you. https://www.michaels.com (Amazon is prioritizing groceries and other essential items, so delivery of non-essential items can be quite slow.)

Alternatively, if you have access to a photocopier you can make multiple copies of your base map to work on.

Please note that you will complete both Exercise 3.1 and 3.2, but will submit your maps only in Exercise 3.2. Be sure to give yourself enough time to do all the measuring, mapping and observing this week!

All the best,

Chrys
